Pont Alexandre III is a monumental bridge that crosses the River Seine in Paris, France. History of Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III was constructed between 1896 and 1900 to mark the Franco-Russian Alliance of 1892. Its namesake, Tsar Alexander III, was the reigning monarch of Russia at the time. The bridge was designed by the engineers Jean Résal and Amédée Alby, and was built by the renowned French engineer Ernest Gariel. The bridge was inaugurated on 17th July 1900 by the Russian Tsar Nicolas II and French President Emile Loubet.

The Grandeur of Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III is one of the most ornate bridges in Paris. The bridge spans the Seine and connects the 8th and 16th arrondissements. It is also a popular spot for romantic walks, and its grandeur is best experienced at night.

The bridge features four single-span arches, each with a span of 37 meters. The bridge is decorated with gilded statues, art nouveau lamps, and cherubs. It is also adorned with two grandiose stone pillars, each of which is topped with a gilded statue of a winged figure. The bridge is also home to several ornamental fountains. The fountains feature figures representing the different rivers of France, as well as basins of water.
