Brazil, officially known as the Federative Republic of Brazil, is the largest country in South America and the fifth-largest in the world by both area and population. It is bordered by all South American countries except Chile and Ecuador. To the east, Brazil has a long Atlantic Ocean coastline, stretching over 7,400 kilometers (4,600 miles).

The capital of Brazil is Brasília, a planned city inaugurated in 1960. The largest city is São Paulo, which is also a major economic and cultural hub. Rio de Janeiro, another major city, is famous worldwide for its iconic landmarks such as the Christ the Redeemer statue, Sugarloaf Mountain, and its vibrant Carnival festival.
