South America is a continent located in the Western Hemisphere, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. South America has a vibrant cultural heritage with contributions to literature, music, dance (such as tango and samba), and cuisine. It is also known for its biodiversity, containing many unique species of plants and animals. Popular tourist destinations include Machu Picchu in Peru, the Iguazu Falls on the Argentina-Brazil border, and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
